Book signing – August 22 & 29 – 11:00-1:00

August 9, 2009

We are repeating the Book signing on the 29th!.  Even though the parade didn’t conflict as much as we anticipated, we did run out of books on the 22nd.   And folks want Ms. Josephine to sign the ones coming in, so stop in for a visit.  And come back that night for a free concert by an amazing artist, Jeff Miller.

Stop by the bookstore right after the Fair Parade, Saturday morning ( the 22nd), to meet Josephine Duke McMahan, author of the just released Teacher Tales. Many long time local residents know this retired teacher who is from a large family of educators in the Cheatham County area.   They are eager to get their copy of this book (from Stone Bridge Book & Gifts, of course) and find the telling tales about their relatives or even themselves as students of Mrs. McMahan.

The Willis Clan returns!!

July 18, 2009

Brenda and Toby Willis and their – they have 10! – children were to perform at Summerfest in Ashland City, but the huge storms came that night.  So if you missed them, join us for a free concert Saturday night, August 15th, for – maybe a hoe-down!  Well, there may not be room enough on the performance stage at A New Thing  to see them dance, but we will love this family’s performance of  original and traditional irish/celtic tunes.   Their website is thewillisclan.com

Friday night hispanic night

April 21, 2009

The hispanic community will meet at the store this Friday, April 24th, with music, fellowship, and messages.  Everyone is welcome, but remember the main language spoken will be Spanish!

And our course Sylvia will have The Back Alley Cafe OPEN the whole time – for everyone who wants to eat some great food – in any language!

High schoolers give speeches

April 1, 2009

Everyone is welcome to watch the speech contest sponsored by Cheatham County Right-to-Life.  High school students will present speeches on important life issues, such as abortion and stem cell research.  Most of the contestants are from a local public high school and will present opinions on both sides of the debates.  This is an opportunity for the students to present their research and position as well as win a cash prize for the best speeches.  It is the community’s opportunity to show support for the students’  efforts and involvement by the school and local citizens.

Join us by 7pm, Tuesday night, April 7, at Stone Bridge Books & Gifts, in A New Thing at 116 N. Main Street in downtown Ashland City.  The Back Alley Cafe will be open before the event starts.  (The Cafe is another new thing within the whole New Thing venue, that includes a bookstore and giftshop, a meeting place, a music corner for piano and guitar lessons, and a performance stage where the speeches will be presented.)
